A total of 665 of the 1,753 police personnel yesterday exercised their right to suffrage by casting their votes for May 9 elections at that Kanla-on Hall of Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr., Bacolod City, during the first day of the three-day absentee voting.

Among the police personnel who availed of absentee voting were those assigned at the city and municipal police stations, provincial police headquarters, mobile force companies under the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office National Support Units and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6.

The absentee voting will run until April 29.

PLt. Abegael Donasco, NOCPPO deputy spokesperson, yesterday said the absentee voting by PNP personnel, is in line with the anticipated deployment of police officers to ensure a secure, accurate, free and fair national and local elections on May 9.

PCol. Leo Pamittan, NOCPPO acting provincial police director, in an issued statement, reminded police personnel to choose the right person, and a party list that supports the government programs and endeavors.

The Police Regional Office 6 reported that 4,247 police officers in Region 6 availed of absentee voting in Western Visayas.

PLt. Col. Arnel Solis, PRO 6 spokesperson, disclosed that the 4,247 volunteered and applied for the local absentee voting.

Those who availed of absentee voting are only allowed to vote for candidates running for national positions, such as president, vice president, senators and party-list groups.*
